ABSTRACT

The introductory chapter begins with a discussion on the energy scenario in the South Asian countries followed by an in-depth analysis of the various energy policy aspects of Bangladesh. The next section analyzes in detail the energy security aspects of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan and discusses their strengths and weaknesses. The analytical framework through which the energy security of all the five South Asian countries will be measured is discussed thereafter followed by a discussion on the international relations theories of neorealism and neoliberalism. Both these international relations theories are discussed to analyze the geopolitical aspect of energy security in South Asia. These theories are further analyzed to understand the reasons for countries cooperating with each other. The final section of the chapter highlights the structure of the following chapters of the book.
