ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses in detail the concept of energy security. The first part of the chapter analyzes the different definitions of the concept followed by a discussion on energy security from the perspectives of economics, climate change and social capital. The next section highlights the different factors affecting the various energy security policies taken by the government. The world energy consumption is also highlighted in the chapter to understand the reasons for ensuring energy security. Moreover, the analytical framework that will be used to measure the energy security of the South Asian countries is then discussed in detail to understand how energy secure these countries are.
