ABSTRACT

The Introduction opens with an account of the ‘interdiscipline’ of Literature and Human Rights. Then it undertakes a brief literature survey of Comics Studies and lists the graphic novels and their contexts that form the subject of the study. It positions the genre of the HR graphic novel within the medium of graphic novels and as a component of ‘the culture of Human Rights’, generating a new transformative cultural script. It outlines how, along with photography, the genre makes the Human Rights visible. Finally, it summarizes the chapters that follow.
