ABSTRACT

All HR graphic novels rely upon a politics of vulnerability. This chapter examines the HR graphic novels’ representations of pain and vulnerability through strategies such as documentary and figurative realism. It shows how the embodied human person is reduced through ruination to a ‘debodiment’. Further, by signalling the ‘situational vulnerability’ of all humans, these graphic novels document how HR violations may be seen.
