ABSTRACT
This chapter considers the disconnections between the government’s plans for Margate, a seaside town, and the retired residents’ engagement with character. In doing so, it shows the limits of theoretical frameworks that only discuss the economic and political implications of urban regeneration, which is part of the local and regional councils’ projects.
