ABSTRACT

This chapter describes practices related to encouraging reflections on activity and participation patterns from various perspectives including the range and variety, the experience of balance, values and beliefs, and dimensions of well-being. Consideration is given to activities and participation such as substance use, that are not typically considered ‘legitimate’ options but may be experienced as providing a range of personal benefits. These reflections provide a foundation for informed decision making related to the types of changes to activity and participation patterns that might be beneficial. Some worksheets in this chapter can serve as simple outcome measures. There are four sections in this chapter: collecting information about activity and participation patterns; reflecting on activity and participation patterns; interpreting activity and participation patterns; and key competencies.
