ABSTRACT

The delivery of practices that facilitate activity and participation patterns that promote health and well-being are best supported within the context of service programs and systems that give them value and importance. This chapter suggests the Capabilities Framework as a guiding conceptual framework for the advancement of activity and participation as a social justice issue for people with serious mental illness. It describes processes to improve the integration of these practices into routine service delivery. The chapter includes four sections: a conceptual framework to support program level activity and participation practice; service structures that influence delivery of activity and participation practices; tips for raising the profile of activity and participation at the program level; and key competencies.
