ABSTRACT

On December 14, 2020, the United Auto Workers (UAW) and the United States (US) Attorney’s office announced a settlement of the investigation of the scandal at the UAW. The UAW is operating under the hardship brought about by a massive fire that destroyed much of Solidarity House in July 2019, forcing the union to establish temporary headquarters at a different location in the metropolitan Detroit area. On December 14, 2020, the UAW and the US Attorney’s office announced a settlement of the investigation of the scandal at the UAW. The union faces continuing investigations of the scandal by the US Attorney, the possibility of a government takeover, defendants awaiting sentence, and a dissident faction seeking reform. Facing continuing investigations by the US Attorney, the UAW’s International President Rory Gamble and US Attorney Matthew Schneider agreed to discuss the steps necessary to rid the UAW of corruption.
