ABSTRACT

Chapter Three reports data on the finances of the union. These data are obtained from annual financial disclosure forms filed by the UAW with the US Department of Labor (DOL). The DOL’s Office of Labor-Management Standards (OLMS) maintains a web portal to provide online access to forms filed between 2000 and 2019. We report data for selected years during this period, covering the union’s major sources of revenues and its disbursements. The chapter also reports on the UAW’s assets and liabilities. The data show that the union experienced declining revenue during the years surrounding the Great Recession, which resulted in cutting back expenditures and reducing staff. The UAW reduced its staff by nearly 50 percent between 2000 and 2018.
