ABSTRACT

The conclusion takes stock of the legacy of Italian elitism in the United States, highlighting its three main effects. The first concerns the renewal of American political studies, starting with the rethinking of the idea of democracy as a competition between elites. The second regards the acceptance of elitist principles from a political perspective, focusing in particular on the case of elitist pluralism. The third, finally, considers how the American reworking of elitism contributed to the creation of the American political hegemony after the Second World War.
