ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a strong case for why entrepreneurs committed to scaling their agribusinesses must harness the power of technology and innovation to improve their product and service delivery, expand their coverage, increase their brand visibility, reduce their costs, and enhance their resilience. It addresses how technology is transforming each stage of the agriculture and food ecosystem in Africa and how entrepreneurs can leverage these interventions in their businesses to scale. The chapter explores strategies for digital and agtech entrepreneurs to enhance their business operations and drive growth, profitability, and impact. The penetration of mobile devices and cellular and wireless networks is growing across Africa, enabling entrepreneurs to engage customers virtually. Entrepreneurs are often concerned about the cost implications of investing in technology, innovation, and digital tools. Over the past few decades, advancement in input technology, mostly new and improved seed varieties and fertilizers, has led to increased crop productivity across the world.
