ABSTRACT

To secure permanent relief to the working classes, it is necessary – that they shall be usefully trained and educated, that they shall be rendered industrious, and be usefully employed, and that the objects on which their industry shall be exerted shall be readily exchanged with advantage. It is now for the author to explain, on the base of the principle stated, the means by which the Irish Peasantry, and the poor and working classes in general, may be permanently relieved. The mercantile world will thus be enabled to obtain a superfluity of wealth, and to enjoy it rationally, without the fear of bankruptcies, or of any of the miserable, degrading, and demoralizing effects which are now necessary appendages to the manufacturing, mercantile, and trading agricultural system. Manual labour will thus be converted into healthy, pleasant, and desirable occupation; while each individual will possess leisure for mental improvement and social enjoyment.
