ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author discusses the importance of focusing on the people problems. The author distinguishes between two types of problems: problems resulting from facing adversity and problems resulting from avoiding facing the adversity. Unless there is a good reason to do otherwise, the people focus on their nominated problem until they have solved it. In the author view, there are two categories of emotional problems that the people have. The first category is when the people encounter an adversity and respond with one or more troublesome emotions as a result of this encounter. The second category occurs as a result of people’s attempts to avoid the adversities and/or the troublesome emotions that they would experience if they faced the situations in which the adversity is deemed to exist.
