ABSTRACT

It is very easy for students to make mistakes in exams, even when they are well prepared. They may turn up on the wrong day or at the wrong time, answer too many or too few questions, allocate their time unwisely, or miss questions on the back of the exam paper. Because they find exams so stressful they may respond to bad experiences of this kind by trying to forget them. This chapter presents an exercise that gives them an opportunity instead to reflect on their mistakes and learn from them. They can also learn from other people’s mistakes. It is usual for people to put in some practice when they know they are going to be asked to perform. Mock exams give students a chance to make their mistakes in a safe situation and learn from them with support from their teachers.
