ABSTRACT

Matt has always been surrounded by teachers. He grew up in a teaching household and his father and aunt are both teachers. Matt has already spent time in classrooms as a volunteer, and feels that he has a good understanding of how teachers work. This chapter draws reader attention to the complexities of teachers’ work, and some of the less obvious aspects that, with the reader deliberate attention, will support their successful prac and the reader future teaching appointments. Curriculum documents differ from country to country, and can also differ within countries, depending on the type of educational institution or service, the jurisdiction and the governing bodies. There is more to curriculum than is written in curriculum documents. Although definitions of what ‘curriculum’ means are constantly under debate, thinking about curriculum as a process rather than a static ‘object’ or ‘thing’ can be helpful.
