ABSTRACT

Marxism is the false consciousness of cultural bourgeoisie who have been radicalized. If, unlike marxist intellectuals, the practical and theoretical developments of feminist ideology undertaken by femocrat practitioners and academics correspond to the ‘true’ class interests of femocrats, we may ask whether this is invariably the case. Femocratic leadership in and contributions toward the emancipation of women is in the interests of femocrats as members of the gender class of women. It might be argued that it is not in their interests as a privileged stratum of women for the division between primary and secondary labour markets to break down. The modern gender division of labour positions women as a gender class which is responsible for the privatised social relations of parenting and of personal and familial ties, and for the management and provision of such labour as is needed to maintain individuals in their daily requirements for food, clothing, leisure and a healthy, clean environment.
