ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the spiral of work place action research. It discusses its place in a broader set of research approaches as well as its underlying philosophies and outlines something of its history. The chapter also details some guidelines for reporting and effectively disseminating the outcomes of an action research project are given and the skills of efficiently and effectively locating and reviewing relevant change research articles. For instance, in Australia it was after a Labor government came into power in 1972 that the Australian Schools' Commission, the State Innovations' Councils, Education Centres and National Research and Development Centres in Education were established. The teams were composed of people already active in the area who were charged with inventing and testing viable innovation options and then advising the university on the most feasible and desirable directions it might take in these areas.
