ABSTRACT

This chapter puts forward the perspective on effective change leadership in education which is succinctly outlined by Binney and Williams: 'Leaning into the future' recognises that effective leadership of change involves bringing together apparently contradictory qualities. The chapterIt presents many people as possible in as many roles as possible in an education service should possess the leadership and self-managed learning attributes discussed, not just the senior staff. It The chapter outlines as many people as possible need to possess the common stance and way of thinking and be able to apply these attributes to handling continuous change with aplomb both organisationally and personally. Readers will be invited to surface their view of what attributes distinguish an effective change leader in education and then to compare their view with what research has found. Finally, the chapter discusses the tactics and support needed to develop competence as a career-long learner.
