ABSTRACT

The Collaborative Family Work model emphasisesthe importance of family members deciding what their problems are and what problems need to be addressed. The worker should encourage the family members to work on issues that are consistent with pro-social or ethical values. Goals are an essential component of problem-solving interventions and of many family therapy approaches. Specific short-term measurable goals are commonly used in Collaborative Family Work. The family members can then be asked what they would like the rating to be or what they think they might be able to achieve. Specific short-term goals that can be achieved within the six to ten weeks of the family work intervention provide the basis on which tasks and strategies can be developed. The family members might discussways in which the attendance at drug treatment can be facilitated.
