ABSTRACT

This chapter defines digital technology and media, describes the importance, knowledge and skills of effective digital leaders, discusses research on the benefits, challenges of and recommendations for using digital technology and media with children and using digital technology and media to advocate for children, families and the profession and examines how to lead others to think critically and improves their skills to use digital technology and media in children’s learning and play. The chapter explores ways to empower children, their families, colleagues and community members to become confident and involved digital learners, and to mediate digital disadvantage and divide and develops understandings of how to assist all stakeholders in their safe and ethical use of digital technology and media in and beyond the early childhood setting. A driving force in the changing face of education has been developments in the use of digital technological platforms and use of the Internet.
