ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the use of technology in the mathematics classroom, including the SAMR model of technology adoption and how teachers make use of technology in the classroom and other aspects of their professional work. Teachers can communicate information to parents in a very time-efficient manner using communication technologies such as blogs and email. Modern applications allow teaching resources to be created quickly and efficiently using a wide variety of built-in templates. It is important for teachers to have an organised resource collection to reduce the amount of time wasted looking for documents. Touch technologies have proven to be invaluable for students with sensory impairments. The multimedia capabilities of modern smart phones and tablets allow teachers to incorporate a much broader range of assessment techniques into their teaching and learning programs. The Top Drawer Teachers site has a collection of resources for teaching fractions, mental computation, patterns, reasoning and statistics.
