ABSTRACT

Digital writing currently takes many forms—an email message, a blog post, a text message, a tweet, a Facebook status update, a comment on a post on a website, a response to an article on a website or blog, a story uploaded to an online zine, a self-published novel, a book review on Goodreads, and so on. Writing in social media relies on mobile and web-based technologies to support communal, participative, connected input and interaction. In 21st-century social spaces and workplaces, words matter more than ever. Most organisations and businesses, no matter how small, have a website. It’s rare for an organisation not to have a website, because the internet is the first place that people go to for information. Businesses use websites as the headquarters for their online presence; everything links back to their website, because running a business from a website is easy and flexible in terms of updating information.
