How genres and academic writing work book
Academic documents are researched, written, and published to increase the base of scholarly knowledge. The main genres that academics rely on to do this are the annotated bibliography, the literature review, and the research paper. Academic research is a systematic process of investigation; data gathering, interpretation, and analysis; problem-solving; and argument. Students who are effective academic writers have a great deal of power over their educational careers, while students who aren’t encouraged to master its conventions are being short-changed. In surveys of the skills employers look for in graduates, a key desire is for employees with critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Writing an annotated bibliography is an efficient way to immerse yourself in a particular discipline. As the name suggests, an annotated bibliography is a list of sources that relate to a particular topic, along with notes briefly describing and/or evaluating each source in the list.
