ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how evaluations are managed and describes the roles and influences of external and internal evaluators. It explores the ways in which evaluators can work for and within organisations. A Coordination and Development Committee (CAD) commissioned evaluations of the national Supported Accommodation Assistance Scheme. The CAD represented parties responsible, including state and Commonwealth governments, for the provision of housing to the homeless across Australia. The evaluation plan requires that evaluators spend extensive periods of time in eighteen case study schools. Hurworth et al undertook an evaluation of a program designed to educate 15–16-year-olds about issues relating to contraception, sexually transmitted diseases and the dangers of drug abuse. A national Participation and Equity Program (PEP) was the linchpin of a national education strategy for reform of secondary schools and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) colleges. Owen and Hartley undertook an analysis of the impact of the national PEP program on TAFE colleges.
