ABSTRACT

Once the students had entered the data and the data file has been checked for accuracy, the next step involves manipulating the raw data into a form that the students can use to conduct analyses and to test their hypotheses. Before the students can perform statistical analyses on their data set, they need to calculate total scale scores for any scales used in their study. The students check with the scale's manual or the journal article it was published in to find out which items, if any, need to be reversed and how to go about calculating a total score. The new variables with reversed scores can be found at the end of the data file. Check this in the student’s Data Editor window, choose the Variable View tab and go down to the bottom of the list of variables.
