ABSTRACT

The chapter provides some effective and accessible methodologies for collecting data, discusses ethical issues in this area and explores some innovative approaches for developing a sustainable culture of reflective practitioner research in this area. Film learning research is also an exciting field, as it is arguably the art form that is most affected by changes in technology and popular culture. The literature search/review should outline the supporting evidence for the research question and the gap in the literature that the research question is addressing. Mixed-methods approaches can examine a large set of questions in the middle ground between qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative research has had a ‘distinguished place in the human disciplines’ since the 1920s and 1930s. The growth and development of qualitative research paralleled the need for a more powerful and naturalistic research method than positivism. The research task is made less onerous by the inherent flexibility of many qualitative methodologies.
