ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the key protagonists of the book, Girja Shankar Bajpai, K.P.S. Menon and Subimal Dutt, who orchestrated many diplomatic missions and represented the interests of Indians internationally while serving as civil servants in British India and then as the first diplomats of independent India.
