ABSTRACT
The third chapter discusses school and classroom environments that promote and nurture literacy. The hallways, common areas, and libraries of school buildings are discussed, and photographs are included. At the classroom level, the following are discussed: classroom libraries, bulletin boards, anchor charts, and word walls. There are reflective questions throughout the chapter and tools to assess classroom learning environments for each grade span.
