ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses writing instruction at length. First, the artistry and science of teaching writing are covered. The chapter includes tools for examining unit plans and lesson plans for evidence of effective writing instruction and assessment. Both writing process and writing products are also discussed. There are tools for each grade span to help leaders observe instruction, talk with teachers about how they teach writing, and talk with students about their experiences with writing instruction. Like the other chapters, reflective questions are included.
