ABSTRACT
This chapter guides system and building leaders in planning to monitor effective literacy instruction, understanding the data and two ways to use it. To clarify the process, scenarios at the system and building levels are incorporated into the chapter. The evidence gathered from monitoring can be used for feedback to teachers or leaders and for decision-making. A few planning tools are included to provide further guidance in getting started with a monitoring process.
