ABSTRACT

Sustainable urban Drainage Systems (SuDS) are alternative approaches to conventional drainage design. In general terms, SuDS are designed to manage and use rainwater close to where it falls. SuDS provide great benefits, the reducing environmental impact from surface water drainage and enhancing the environment. SuDS can take many forms, both above and below ground. Some types of SuDS include planting; others include proprietary/manufactured products. Most SuDS schemes use a combination of SuDS components to achieve the overall design objectives for the site. Sustainable drainage systems are designed to maximise the opportunities and benefits we can secure from surface water management.
