ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on the COVID-19 pandemic as a factor restricting immigration. Borders were closed. Xenophobic tendencies increased, particularly against those with Asian heritages. A brief history of pandemics is provided. The psychological effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are reviewed, including isolation, stigmatization, and denial. Albert Camus's The Plague is examined as predicting many behaviors observed during the pandemic.
