ABSTRACT
This chapter presents the voice of Igiaba Scego, an Italian writer and activist of Somali heritage strongly influenced by her multifaceted cultural identity. In the proposed excerpt from the book La mia casa è dove sono, Igiaba Scego writes about a society that continues to question her national and literary identities, and struggles to embrace a multicultural and intercultural nationality. Suspended between the fascination with her cultural roots and the love for the land in which she was born, her voice tells the story of what it means to feel at home, the difficulties of being accepted and loved. Her work speaks of and to those who are trying to reconcile different identities within themselves, and it has the potential to move the reader beyond a simplistic discourse on immigration.
