ABSTRACT

This chapter brings to the readers’ attention the first poetic work of Giovanna Cristina Vivinetto, Dolore minimo. This collection of poems powerfully conveys the complex experience of transsexuality and aims at breaking through a silent cultural taboo. It is the story of the poet’s lyrical transition from an involuntary birth to a desired metamorphosis, to conquer the missing part of herself and embody her true identity. Her body will in the end become what the heart has always been, what it has always known. Vivinetto’s verses will present a profound and moving language; they will give learners the opportunity to witness an indispensable and undeniable rebirth and to participate in the uninterrupted written dialogue that for many years animated the two identities coexisting within her.
