ABSTRACT

Summary: As the initial deadlines for lockdowns drew near, in various countries patience with inactivity and enclosure was wearing thin. There was little to justify any quick relaxation of restrictions, but the economic pressures mounted and with them the demands for relaxation. The effect of the lockdowns on those in precarious or straitened circumstances was much in the news and on the authors’ minds. The interventions in this chapter touch upon those tensions. These tensions were, naturally, both external and internal – in various ways, the interventions here are as much on tensions observed out there as on the authors’ own unsettled feelings.
