ABSTRACT

Summary: The initial interventions consider what effect the lockdown and social distancing measures have on our sense of physical space. Physical space is considered at various levels: personal space, domestic space, work space, social-network space, public space. Alterations in these notions of space naturally raise significant legal and policy questions. The growing dependence on digital space – regarded here as a sort of ‘mental’ space – comes up, too. Various apps to trace contact between persons so as to prevent the contagion spreading are noted and their potential functions beyond fighting Covid-19 considered. Ultimately, of course, space is predominantly traversed and grasped in our regular activities, so everyday life perceptions come up relevantly in some of the interventions.
