ABSTRACT

The introduction situates this discussion of Jüngel, proposing it as a means through which to take a long view on the interplay between philosophy, theology, and religion in 20th century German thought. This is done through detailing Jüngel's life and work and showing how he relates to the wider philosophical, theological, and religious context. Looking at 20th century German thought as a complex interplay between philosophy, theology, and religion, it will argue that a philosophical investigation of Jüngel's thought is particularly important. It will thus detail the way in which Jüngel's thought can speak across the categories of theology, philosophy, and religion as they have been understood in his own context.
