ABSTRACT

This chapter exploits the qualitative materials to dig deeper into the lived experience of long-term unemployed young people. It aims to show how long-term unemployment profoundly affects the life of those young adults who are struck by it, personally, socially, and politically. It takes each of these three major aspects in turn and uses the in-depth interviews to examine both similarities and differences across the four cities in how long-term unemployment is felt, as well as its impact and the strategies used by young people to cope with their situation.
