Remarks such as “That’s all very well in theory but it won’t work in practice” suggest that theory and practice are two distinct realms with little or no bearing on each other. And it is not uncommon to hear people dismiss philosophy as being ‘just theory’ with the implication that it is of no practical value. But this distinction must be rejected.
