ABSTRACT

By 1984, I was working in many of the preeminent theaters in America including the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. the Utah Shakespeare Festival, the Globe theater in San Diego, Actors theater Louisville, ACT San Francisco and Seattle Repertory Theater. I was also conducting fight workshops in many universities across the United States. The primary school which I worked at for nearly 20 years was the University of Washington. It was at the U. of W. that I came up with the idea of creating a video series in collaboration with the university that would allow for schools in isolated parts of the country to get the necessary skills to address armed and unarmed combat in their various productions. The name of the series was Combat for the Stage and Screen. It was a huge success. It was a few years later that I introduced another video series titled The Fight Director which was shot in Cedar City, Utah at the Utah Shakespeare Festival that was also a big hit.
