ABSTRACT

The conclusion of the book discusses the paucity of research in criminology on the elderly and reviews some hypotheses as to why it has been like this. The chapter also reaffirms the importance of adopting a victim-centered approach in order to clearly identify the specific context that may contribute specifically to elderly sexual abuse. In addition, this chapter presents situational crime prevention as a measure that is especially suited for elderly sexual abuse – either in the community or in the residential care setting. Finally, the conclusion suggests future avenues for research on elderly sexual abuse.
