ABSTRACT

One of the ways in which a trusted adult can encourage a child to connect with their deeper, truer authentic ‘inner self’ and express their hidden childhood wounds safely is by using the expressive arts. Rumi is famous for saying that “The wound is the place where the Light enters you.” Similarly, in the podcast ‘Stories to Save Us’, Michael Meade (2020) has said that knowing one’s wound is essential to becoming a human being – an awakened person. In other words, adversity or trauma can be a starting point to a ‘rite of passage’ that leads to growth, if we are guided by mentors or trusted adults, who can offer the required support.
