ABSTRACT

This chapter summarises the main achievements of social entrepreneurship in the past 30 years, before discussing some of its intrinsic limitations and the main challenges that most social entrepreneurial organisations regularly encounter. Starting from the limitations and challenges identified, the chapter then proposes some ways in which the development of social entrepreneurship could be sustained going forward. Finally, the chapter introduces the concept of systems change, given its growing popularity in social entrepreneurship ecosystems, and presents three approaches that can help to bring it about: systems analysis, systems thinking, and systems leadership.
