ABSTRACT

This chapter is the first one discussing practical tools and skills that can help aspiring social entrepreneurs and founders of social entrepreneurial organisations to realise their idea. Specifically, the chapter encourages the gathering of relevant knowledge on existing solutions, potential competitors, and the context of operation before jumping into the creation of a social entrepreneurial organisation. It also presents students with several techniques and frameworks that are helpful for gathering knowledge, such as codebooks, mind maps, Porter’s Five Forces framework, the SWOT analysis framework, PESTEL, and the adaptations of some of these frameworks to suit the needs and goals of social entrepreneurship.
