ABSTRACT

In this Introduction, the authors welcome you to the Krowathunkooloong Keeping Place on unceded Gunai Kurnai Country. The Elders fought to create this Keeping Place as a cultural centre on Country and at the heart of the self-determined Gippsland & East Gippsland Aboriginal Co-operative (GEGAC). We produced this academic work at the interface space of the Keeping Place, expressing and extending its purpose as a culturally safe place for the Gunai Kurnai Community that colonists can visit to build relationships with First Nations people. We situate our work in relation to the fields of museum studies and critical Indigenous studies.
