ABSTRACT

This chapter overviews Rob Hudson’s work as Cultural Manager at the Keeping Place with people who visit, focusing on young people. Aboriginal people know that the Keeping Place is a space where they can find Community and discuss Culture. This chapter explores how the Cultural Manager engages with Aboriginal and non-Indigenous visitors to the Keeping Place. Regular school visits make the Keeping Place an intimate space for students, and Rob teaches young people that they are already in relationship with Gunai Kurnai Country and shares protocol to respond to this relationship. Rob enacts cultural resurgence in interactions with young Koori people through paying keen attention to embodied sovereignty, and he does this with colonists present by discursively and spiritually ensuring that the Keeping Place is a culturally safe space.
