ABSTRACT

The Elders made the Keeping Place as a museum interface legible to settlers. This is to encourage the repatriation/rematriation of Ancestor objects and Old People from Gunai Kurnai Country, which many colonists still detain in their homes and museums. This chapter documents the work Rob Hudson does as Cultural Manager to receive and culturally care for Ancestor objects that return to the Keeping Place. This work is not just physical, it involves attention to the spirits within and attached to Ancestor objects and in the Keeping Place on Country. This chapter also describes Rob’s work to protect kin and Ancestor objects in the Keeping Place by refusing colonist requests for their dismemberment or removal.
