ABSTRACT

The Chicago Convention establishes the international basis of civil aviation. It exists in the English, French and Spanish languages. In 1947 the UN General Assembly adopted a convention for the coordination of the privileges and immunities of the specialised agencies with those privileges and immunities already provided to the United Nations under the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations 1946. In the UK section 60 of its Civil Aviation Act 1982 provides that the Crown may make an Order in Council that will implement the Chicago Convention, any Annex relating to international standards or recommended practices, and any amendment of the Chicago Convention or of such Annex. European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) has developed the Safety Assessment of Foreign Aircraft Programme based on the powers of search given under Article 16 of the Chicago Convention 1944. Data obtained from the search is passed on to other ECAC member States.
