ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the concepts discussed in part 1 of this book. The part summarises the liability of the air carrier in respect of international carriage of passengers, baggage and cargo as defined by the Warsaw Convention 1929, the Warsaw Convention as amended by the Hague Protocol 1955 and Montreal Additional Protocol 4. It contains the amendments to the articles of the Unamended Convention, each such article being numbered with an Arabic numeral. The part deals with the Scope of Application of the Amended Convention, and deals with the Final Clauses. In the carriage of postal items, the carrier shall be liable only to the relevant postal administration in accordance with the rules applicable to the relationship between the carriers and the postal administrations. From the standpoint of the carrier it is nevertheless desirable that notices and conditions of contract on tickets are written not only in English but also in the national language of the carrier.
