ABSTRACT

Navigating supervision is not a single step in a way that creating a proposal is. Rather it is an ongoing process that feeds into every single step in this book. The role of supervisor can take many forms. They can be an academic mentor, subject specialist, support, or a critical friend who reviews and comments on your work. Whatever the role they take, no two supervisor relationships are the same. It is therefore important that students understand their own role in managing supervisor relationship, and learn how to make most of the support they are offered. This chapter provides practical guidance on how to navigate supervision, and tools for self-evaluation for students who are working without a formal supervisor.
